Spray dryer consists of a large cylindrical & usually vertical chamber in to which material to be dried is the form of small droplets and into which is fed a large volume of hot air sufficient to supply the heat necessary complete evaporation of liquid.

Spray drying process is applicable to a wide range of products and industries.

Design Consideration

Co-current type : Feed and hot air is from same side. Feed is from rotary atomiser and nozzle

Counter current : Feed is from top side and hot air from bottom side. Feed is from from rotary atomiser and
nozzle

Co counter type : Feed is from bottom side and hot air from top (Fountain) side. Feed atomisation is through
pressure nozzle or two fluid nozzle.
